In short
Revision rhinoplasty corrects a previously operated nose. It is done at the earliest 6 months, ideally 10–12 months after the first surgery. Because most problems come from too much bone or cartilage having been removed, support from ear or rib cartilage is often needed. It usually takes 2–4 hours under general anaesthesia, mostly with the open technique.

Why is revision rhinoplasty needed?
After any rhinoplasty a small number of patients are unhappy with the shape or develop breathing problems. Common causes are over-resection of cartilage, an unsupported tip that drops, asymmetry or a residual hump. Scar tissue makes the second operation more demanding than the first.
Problems that may require revision
- Collapsed or 'scooped' bridge (saddle nose)
- Pinched or drooping tip
- Crooked nose or asymmetric nostrils
- Residual hump or irregularities
- Nasal obstruction from a deviated septum or collapsed nasal valves
When is revision surgery performed?
Tissues must settle before a second operation: at least 6 months, ideally 10–12 months after the first surgery. You can still be examined earlier; an early consultation helps to plan the right timing.
How is it performed?
Most revisions are done with the open technique. Missing support is rebuilt with cartilage grafts taken from the septum, the ear or, when a large amount is needed, the rib. Breathing problems are corrected in the same operation.
Frequently asked questions
How long does revision rhinoplasty take?
Usually 2–4 hours; longer if rib cartilage is used.
How long is recovery after revision rhinoplasty?
Returning to social life takes 10–14 days, similar to the first operation. Because of scar tissue, swelling may take 12–18 months to settle completely.
Will a rib cartilage graft leave a scar?
Rib cartilage is taken through a 2–3 cm incision usually hidden in the breast fold.
Can breathing problems be fixed during revision?
Yes. The septum, nasal valves and turbinates are assessed and corrected in the same operation.
Why is revision more complex than primary rhinoplasty?
Tissues contain scar, normal landmarks may be altered and cartilage is often missing, so support must be rebuilt.
I am unhappy with my nose two months after surgery. What should I do?
Have it examined, but a decision on revision is usually made after the nose has settled, at 6–12 months.
Is ear cartilage enough?
For small corrections it often is. For major reconstruction of the bridge or tip, rib cartilage gives stronger support.
Is revision rhinoplasty more expensive?
It usually takes longer and often requires grafts. Prices are not published under Turkish regulations; information is given after assessment.
Can I have a revision if my first surgery was in another country?
Yes. Bring any operative notes you have; photographs before the first surgery are also helpful.
How many days should I stay in Ankara?
Plan for about 10 days.
